5 reasons why having Allergies saved my life and loving Organic Skincare

Organic Skincare is getting more popular than I've ever seen it before. As I was walking down the street of where there are all high end, swanky Boutiques, I was surprised to see that there is a whole new area of shops that have popped up promoting natural and organic skincare products. It's great to see this new shift in skincare gaining popularity in recent years as more people seek out products that are free from chemicals and are gentle on their skin.

Having grown up a ton of allergies, really bad eczema on my arms, neck as well as the back of my legs, I am an advocate of products that are free from chemicals. The Doctors had diagnosed me as among the top 5 cases they had seen. Out of 65 allergens they had tested me for, only 3 of them I was not allergic to.

Our home was very clean and organized already, even my Grand-Momma had us washing the walls every Saturday morning, so it definitely wasn't a problem with being in a sterile or sanitized environment. It was determined that it had to be the food and chemical sensitivities that were severely affecting me  to the point where I would be very lethargic and spaced out all the time.

Because of that when I became an adult, I had to completely start from scratch. When I became a Hairstylist back in the 90's, I made the decision early on to use more natural haircare for my Clients because if I was allergic to them, they could possibly be too. It wasn't very popular back in then and often it was hard to build a steady book of business because of it.

Luckily, I specialized in natural hair and braiding so that created my niche. Anyone who wanted perms, relaxers or heavy products in their hair, I told them my intentions were to ween them off of them eventually. Most were very happy and grew long healthy hair. Now we see decades later that there are lawsuits with some of those products that have effected there endocrine system.

Also about 7 years ago I published a book called Amazing Hair Organically - The Secrets of Women with Beautiful Hair from around the World that's a full of easy recipes to make your own products, the origins and the many beneficial uses of them like healing properties that not only include hair but for your skin and body as well. It's basically stuff you can find online if you do a ton of research, I just wanted to put them into one book to show my clients that I had their best interest in mind and my values with being a licensed Cosmetologist.

What I realized was how incredibly blessed I was to have such bad allergies because without them, I probably wouldn't have researched or been attracted to what our Planet naturally provides. I probably wouldn't have healed and been as healthy as I am now. So I am very, very grateful for them guiding me to what's made by nature.

For the record, I am not saying that all natural products don't cause allergies, there are some that do like soy, lavender, chamomile, aloe or certain types of seaweed. Then there are natural chemicals that cause allergens out there too, so I recommend paying attention to how you feel when using them and the reaction it has on your body for your overall health. I am just speaking to those of us who are more plant-based focused like myself.

These are the benefits that I've found using natural and organic products:

  1. They are gentle on the skin. These products are made from ingredients that are derived from nature and are free from harsh chemicals that can irritate the skin. Using them cleared my eczema to the point that no one would ever think, I suffered with it for a long time. Because it's more gentle, it's suitable for people with sensitive skin.  Have you tried the Rose Essential Oil on Amazon?
  2. Natural products are typically Nourishing and hydrating. Many natural and organic skincare products contain ingredients that are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, which can help to nourish and hydrate the skin. This can leave the skin looking and feeling healthier and more radiant like mine that tends to be on the dryer side getting so much Sun when I am surfing regularly.
  3. Free from chemicals. Some skincare products often contain harmful chemicals such as parabens can mimic hormone estrogen, disrupting the normal function in women and men. More about Parabens can be found on https://www.ewg.org/what-are-parabens, phthalates, where Tasha Stoiber, PhD who is a Senior Scientist wrote an article a blog about them. Phthalates that do reproductive and developmental harm, immune system toxicity and hormone disruption. Also, synthetic fragrances can be absorbed into the skin and have harmful effects on the body. Natural and organic skincare products are free from these chemicals making the a safer choice for your skin and overall health.                                       These chemicals Personally, I believe this is why I had a smooth menopausal transition with very minimal side effects because of using natural deodorants, hair, skin and body products.
  4. Environmentally friendly. Natural and organic skincare products are often made from sustainably sourced ingredients and are packaged in eco-friendly packaging. This makes them a more environmentally friendly choice than conventional skincare products. As a Surfer, I love seeing happy Dolphins swimming pass. I care about the health of our Oceans and Marine life.
  5. Better for animals. Many natural and organic skincare brands are cruelty-free and do not test their products on animals. This makes them a more ethical choice for people who are concerned about animal welfare.
Because of my of personal experience with them, I'm just happy that they have been gentle on my skin, improved my overall health and different massage therapist always tell me how soft my skin feels. I've witness the effective results of using them as compared to conventional skincare products. Of course research has shown that natural, organic skincare products have powerful anti-aging anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial properties. It's just great they can also can help make a positive impact on the world around us. What's been your experience with them?
