Change your mood by changing the colors in your home; Color Therapy

For years I was attracted to dark, rich earth tones of brown, ebony and mahogany décor until I became a Surfer. Although still very beautiful, it didn't represent my new beachy lifestyle. Colors can have a powerful effect on our moods and emotions. If you work from home this is especially useful to consider. So after 30 years of wearing all Black to work because it's considered the most professional for my career, I woke up one day frustrated that I couldn't tell the difference in one black outfit from the next. They all started to feel uninspiring, so I decided to make navy blue would be my new theme.

Honestly, I was actually very surprised that it was an instant mood changer. That feeling motivated me to research #colortherapy and make changes to my home. Blue, greens and purples are associated with relaxation and peace while colors like orange, red and yellow can evoke energy and enthusiasm. Then I went a little deeper and found that the Egyptians in ancient Nubia used colors as symbolic of life and experiences. Blue, Green and Turquoise represent life, rebirth. I was definitely having a rebirth moving to California becoming a surfer. Gold was a representation of God's flesh, purity, royalty and the Sea... I did not expect to go that deep but it really gave my space a light, airy, freshness that's very mentally stimulating.

So my conclusion is when selecting colors for our living spaces, it's important to consider what kind of atmosphere we want to create and how it will affect our mood. Do you want something that reflect your travels or a romantic aesthetic? The easy way to start off is by making a mood board. What inspires you? How would you like to feel each morning you wake up? Buying one piece at a time will make your place look crazy for a few months but it'll all come together. Also, the match everything the same is kind of out of style now. Purchasing unique pieces makes it seem more lived in and thoughtful. The ideal is to decorate with pieces that reflect your personality.
