5 Essential habits Remote Workers need and what to avoid

Being a remote worker has it's rewards and it's disadvantages.  No longer do you have to fight morning traffic to be at work on time nor preparing hours in advance.

But did you know the main drawback is weight gain? Stress and anxiety for having to sit down for long periods of time or do work that we don't necessarily want to do causes us to find something comforting like eating.

It starts of with little snacks here and there, then as you develop that habit after a couple of months, you don't realize that those calories having been adding up along with your regular meals. Most snacks have a lot of sugar and salt which results in more cravings for them.

Also, you may not be getting up as often as you should or maybe using your downtime to lay on the couch.  Another important factor is poor posture habit. It causes the stomach muscles to become weak and can significantly drain your energy as well as can lower self esteem.

5 Essential habits needed to help make remote work more successful are:

  1. Practice good Posture. There are office chairs designed for your lumbar to keep your spine aligned correctly. A cheaper alternative would be to get a posture support girdle that helps with the back and stomach. Also desk accessories  that helps you to keep your arms and body in a more elevated position as to not be slumped over.
  2. Avoid overeating by planning your meals. Meal prepping is an excellent way to stay on track and make sure you have portion control.
  3. You're at home, take that 5 to 7 minute break every hour and do some stretching or a quick yoga practice for energy and balance or maybe some squats, lunges or exercise bands. It will give you a boost of energy and you'll be toning up everyday without even really realizing it.
  4. Be organized to maintain time management, minimize distractions and keep the flow from feeling cluttered. Does wonders for your overall sense of well being.
  5. Take a nap or go for a walk during your lunch break. Even if you have Children, I'm sure they would be happy to get outside with you for 30 minutes, burn off some of that energy will help everyone's mood and well-being.
