I traded the Hollywood Night Scene in for a Surfboard because it's not a Hobby, it's a Lifestyle

My beach life started about 10 years ago after moving to California two years prior... It was always my childhood dream to live here and spend as much time as possible at the beach. Then,  I got a taste of the Hollywood life with being a Hairstylist working on a few reality shows and I got hired to host a podcast radio show where they gave me a press pass to interview guest for my content. I forgot all about the beach for a minute.

Whew, when I tell you I was always in  "the place to be" every where I went. Invite only, Celebs loved me and sat next to me first. They always thought they knew me from another TV show. To this day, I get that a lot but maybe now because I have a lot of content social media.

I took my jobs seriously too. Seriously fun that is, lol. I've always enjoyed learning about others and getting to interview People but also, I came here as an Author of my first book "Confessions from a Las Vegas Hairstylist, so there wasn't a red carpet that I wasn't apart of during that time. Especially since the Clients I attracted worked mostly in the Industry.

Being  photogenic helped too, there was always photographers taking my picture. That made it easy and worked for for a while. I really could of kept going with the social elite as my new friends and we had a blast hanging out together.  So I am grateful for all the experiences that I had but leaving that world gave me no regrets. I believe if most could got a chance to live it too, they'd find it very intriguing at first.

But somewhere along the way, I got tired of hangovers from drinking all night, coming in late, struggling to wake up in the mornings...
I mean when I moved here, I was already in my 40's, certainly not a spring chicken, but not old either but old enough to feel like this had to change considering I had just moved here from  Vegas living a dang near 24 hour clubbing lifestyle. In fact my closest friends were also feeling it at the same time because we all started to focus more on our careers and other endeavors so the night life was fading away.

Some of us would all meet up at a Spiritual Center together, then go to lunch, then to the Beach. It was then the Coastal life started to call me, I needed more. I would drive along the coast on my way to work (the long way just to see it) watching a whole world going on that I wasn't apart of.  It made me sad to remember what I came here for. The Ocean air intoxicated me and I knew that I wanted to be in it.

Those benefits of being near it gave me my daily dose of Vitamin Sea and D. helps more oxygen into the lungs, promoting respiratory health, improves allergies, stimulates immune system too.

I promised myself that I would take at least one day off to go plant my feet in the sand, lay under the warm Sun that I craved so much after growing up in the Mid-West where we only had 65 days of it.

I was spending too much time indoors and that wasn't sitting with my spirit very well anymore, I had dark circles under my eyes, and the drinking had my skin looking very dehydrated. I also felt unfulfilled.. I needed a change bad.

Also, it was time to deal with my fear of being in the Ocean, I really wanted to learn how to swim in it.  I was a comfortable mermaid in a swimming pool but this was a massive body of water I certainly wasn't accustomed to. It was calling me to be near it and when I did, something magical started to happen...

I felt rejuvenated, renewed, healed, releasing toxic chemicals and inhaling clean oxygen that opened up energy blockages. Some of the benefits of Surfing are:
  • Improves Sleep
  • Improves mental focus
  • Boost heart health
  • Burns calories
  • promotes weight maintenance
  • increases muscle strength and power
  • reduces risk of disease
  • boost metabolism

I slowly began to trade my late nights out for going to bed early, trading my bottle of Moet for a Mango smoothie, my heels for flip flops, heavy make-up for sustainable skincare, processed junk food for plant based vegan cuisine, I mean, I went all the way in. I had to be at work by 10AM, so I was at the beach at 7  in the morning, meditating.

That one day a week I did that immediately changed my entire life and all the things I wanted to do manifested into this lifestyle you see me having now. It may be quite simple to some, very mild to others. My career and relationship goals changed. Greeting the Sunrise, reverencing Mother Nature, honoring the Ocean as well as Marine life with gratitude for being there and if I was lucky to  catch a magnificent Sunset after work, oh my God.. The Spiritual connection, it was Church.. The People I met who helped me along this journey.

Those club nights and red carpets every weekend became a distant memory. A passing moment in time of another dimension of life.  Definitely a different version of myself that I am not even familiar with anymore. Most of all, I have no regrets of transforming my life only great memories. Who knows this may be an old version of myself one day too and new ones that are unfolding every day to bring more much joy... because it's not a hobby, it's a lifestyle.

Here's why being near the Ocean has powerful affects
