One of the many reasons I love Venice Beach in particular is the Art work is very inclusive. I love this new piece that was painted on the wall near muscle beach as I was heading towards the breakwater to catch some waves.
I noticed that there was an image of a BIPOC Surfer and Skater as I was headed towards the breakwater to catch some waves.
An image I had never seen before on public display outside of another POC's drawing on their social media. This is why representation is so important, it gives individuals like me, my children and my grandchildren a sense of belonging in the Country we were born in.
It's crazy that it's taken this long to see positive imagery of us. Most of the time it's a mural of slain Black Leaders or those who with rip in the hood... These new images help the thousands, 120, 000 tourist to be exact, see us in the multi-faceted activities that we've always been apart of. Stereotypical characters that have gotten sold to Hollywood has had a profound effect on People in other countries about who we are and what interest we have when in fact, they can be just as diverse as anyone else's background.
So, I love this so much!!!
